There’s no getting around it; there are not enough hours in the day for most busy women, especially lately when we are pulled in so many directions during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
However, a little cheat here and there can give you a few extra minutes so that you can take a shower or even drink your coffee while it’s still hot. Here are some tried and true time savers that can help make your life a little easier.
Streamline Your Grocery Shopping
Grocery shopping can be one of the worst time thieves for working women. It is ideal to schedule one shopping trip a week and take some time with your list so that you get everything that you need in one shot. You might even find that it helps to have a master weekly list of items which you can add to as needed. If you’re opting to shop online these days and have your groceries prepared for curbside pickup or delivery, the same rule should apply – do it all in one go for the week and your future self will thank you.
Two (or Three!) Birds with One Stone
Try scheduling a 20-minute walk every day, and during that time commit to learning something new. You could listen to a fun podcast; practice mindful meditation; take an online course; or even learn a new language. Make a list of your goals and desires, and remind yourself of some of the things you’ve always wanted to try but never seemed to find the time to implement. Pick your top three wish list goals, and get started one at a time to work towards bringing joy in your life while also staying active. Bonus points if you have a pet that needs walking – that’s three tasks done all at once!
Everything In Its Place
While you may feel like you don’t have time to organize your home, after a few tweaks here and there it will actually be a huge time saver. We’re not talking miracles here; just identify a few trouble areas like toys, closets and drawers, and set up clearly labelled see-through bins to help you transition through seasons and varying items. This allows the whole family to contribute to keeping your home clean and organized, so that you aren’t always picking up after everyone.
Have a Plan for Laundry
Laundry is often a special nightmare that you can never wake up from. You either run out of socks, have dirty clothes strewn everywhere, or there are constantly hampers of clean clothes waiting to be folded and/or put away. The only way to tackle this job is to work on it a little bit each day. You can do a load of laundry at night so you’re not overwhelmed with it at the end of the week. You could even do a bit of folding in the even while you binge watch Netflix.
Every day is another chance to do one small thing that gets you closer to feeling as zen as possible in your daily life. We hope these life hacks help even in some small way!
