About WP Creations
WP Creations is an award-winning Canadian Franchise Company. Recognized by the Canadian Franchise Association as an Award of Excellence recipient, we are a company designed to cultivate the individual artist and business owner as well as provide excellent customer service to our clients. We are a team of women helping to support one another as entrepreneurs, moms, and individuals. We are leaders in our field and are a company that supports the growth and empowerment of ourselves and each other.
Based on the concept of what the ‘perfect’ work-at-home business would mean to someone requiring flexibility in their work hours, WP Creations experienced growth at an astounding rate, becoming one of the fastest-growing Home-Based businesses in Canada. We started as an award-winning work-at-home concept and have since grown into a Canada wide franchised company with business opportunities throughout North America. Business owners receive professional hands-on training not only on ‘how’ to produce products, but resources on how to market and develop their business over time. The sense of pride in owning your own business, while having the flexibility to work around your family’s schedule enables women to achieve the ‘balance’ many desire.
I love what we do. We love what we do. We’re a very proud, family orientated company who work hard every day not only to juggle our personal and professional obligations but also to go through the emotional journey of life. We’re happy and honoured to be there to support other women and women entrepreneurs whenever possible.
With over 40 locations throughout North America, and a Head Office developing the business full-time, our business owners never feel like they are in business alone, therefore greatly increasing the chances of success!
What is your “WHY” behind your business/being an entrepreneur?
To be honest with you, my why has changed over the years. As life happens, circumstances change, so has my why. Initially, I bought into this business as a way to be able to work-at-home with my 1-year-old son who shortly thereafter, was diagnosed with extreme medical conditions. The opportunity to own a franchise, run it from home, help out financially, have something to focus on and be able to provide keepsakes for other families at a time when I knew all too well how precious the small moments were, was something I needed at the time. And I was good at it. Today, my kids are older, my sons’ medical needs (yes now two kids) have vastly improved and I have moved forward from franchisee to franchisor and president of the entire franchise chain. My why has developed into, my desire to see other women succeed. I own this franchise, not only for the deep connection I have to the keepsakes we provide, and the clients we serve and the families we have met over the years, but I am invested in my team, the women who become a part of the WP Creations family and their families. We sink or swim together and I enjoy seeing their personal and professional growth.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
My inspiration came from a belief in myself. My motivation was my son, but my inspiration was a voice inside my head that said go for it, you can do this! I’ve always been an incredibly hard worker and knew that I could likely figure out how to be an entrepreneur too!
What’s the best part about owning your own business?
The best part about owning my own business is the incredible amount of learning I’ve done. The connections I have made, learning from other entrepreneurs, other businesses, figuring out things on my own, seeing projects done from beginning to end, seeing the change in the company over time, all of this.
What impact did other people/experiences have on you, and how did they help you get to where you are in your business today?
Throughout my time as a franchisee, I have met thousands of families and have heard about their various journeys through fertility struggles and miscarriages, through depressions and losses, separations and divorce, and even the journey of being a first time mom to what motherhood looks like with subsequent children. I have learned we are all going through our journey of life and even though it appears harder for some than others, it’s all relative to what one has experienced. Meeting these families helped me to accept my personal journey in the medical world with my children. I realized how blessed I was to be afforded the gift of life with my children albeit complicated and sad at times. I have personally cast many babies who have passed away and there are no words to describe how honoured I am to have a company that can help provide keepsakes to those parents at that time.
So my clients were my rock. They may not have known how much they touched my life but they have provided my family with personal strength and also to help get us through the hard times of being an entrepreneur. With that said, I know we wouldn’t be successful without the wonderful help of our franchise team. Their strength and passion for our brand continue to help us grow. They believe greatly in seeing us have one of our keepsakes in every family’s home.
What values do you believe in and live by, and how do they shine through when it comes to your role as a business owner?
I believe in thinking about others first. I have always been more of a giver than a taker and given the nature of our business and the emotions of parenthood, this has been a huge asset to me. I accept others for who they are and embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your business/being an entrepreneur?
The pride I have in myself for what I have accomplished over the years, the changes I have made and the success I have brought the company. We are continuously innovating to enhance our customer experience and expand our reach. It is also the pride I have in my team when I see them make strides in their own personal and professional growth, big or small, it makes me so proud. We have been able to introduce software platforms that have enhanced the training and supports within our franchise system.
What does the future look like for you and your business?
With recent changes to our business model, we’ll be able to expand into many more areas across the company thus supporting our vision of having our keepsakes in every home. We will continue to work with technology to help expand our reach into new markets starting in the U.S. and then across the globe. I envision our Canadian franchise team being more than Canadian franchise owners but perhaps part of a greater team that supports the creation of our keepsakes around the world.
Any tips for women thinking of starting a business?
Recognize that the fear of starting something is only temporary. There is always risk in business. You will never regret trying something, but you will always regret never trying in the first place. Believe in yourself, be passionate about what you’re doing or creating, do your research, be organized, create good habits, use your strengths and remember to lean on support systems. There is no shame in asking for help when you need it.
