Angie’s Insights to Entrepreneurship
Was there a time in your life you knew you were capable of more, or destined for more?
A pivotal moment in my life was during my last corporate job – I was offered a promotion I have dreamed of, but deep in my heart knew I had to create my own path. I quit and invested in a healthy-fast food franchise business with my husband as a way to get into the business/entrepreneurship world. I gave up the stable 9-5 job for 15 hour work days, opening up the restaurant, cleaning the restaurant, prepping food and the list goes on but we were building “something” of our own.
What challenges have you overcome in your life, and what did you learn about yourself in the process?
One of the biggest challenges was our first business venture, investing in a franchise. We had to wear many different hats. We had to hire and train employees, we had to do the marketing, operations, finances of the business – it was a lot of responsibility to take on since we had no prior experience in starting and creating a business, but we learnt a lot during this entire experience. We learned how to manage a team, create systems and processes, make better decisions and it forced us to be more creative and resourceful.
What is your why? How do you ensure you are living your life “on purpose” as much as possible?
My biggest why is to inspire people to make more conscious choices for themselves and the planet – and I am grateful to be able to do this through our work at Kind Laundry. Over the last 7 years, my husband and I have spent a lot of time on self-development – we’ve participated in various events and read all types of books on mindset. During our journey to be more mindful and conscious of the things we do – we have developed habits that helped us become the best version of ourselves. Some examples include changing our diet to one that is more plant-based which helped to heal many health issues we were both experiencing, exercising more regularly, meditating and spending time in nature as much as possible.
Where do you see yourself and/or your life in the next year? What do you hope to see in the world and/or hope to accomplish?
I see myself continuing to grow Kind Laundry by creating more innovative products for the laundry care/household cleaning category. I love speaking to customers and people to learn more about their current challenges and finding solutions to make their life easier. From our conversations we have learned many consumers are looking for more sustainable and safer laundry care options for their homes and their families. That they want products that are just as effective as conventional options and as a result, we have developed a few fun and innovative products that have never been done or seen in the laundry space before. We are so excited to launch these products and to provide consumers with a more eco-friendly choice and make a direct impact on the planet through the products we create.
What advice can you give to other women around life, family, work, and self-care?
I am still working on work-life balance, but I do think it’s very important to recharge your batteries. As an entrepreneur, you wear a lot of different hats and there are always fires to put out on a daily basis – it’s easy to work around the clock all day, everyday. So I have been very mindful of “self-care” time whether it’s just 15 mins to lie down and take a little break, a full hour workout session or booking in a massage/facial, I make sure to schedule things that help me disconnect for a bit so that I can come back refreshed and energized to tackle problems and manage the rest of the day.
If you have an idea or an interest in something – go for it. Whether its taking extra lessons for your hobby, learning something new on YouTube or setting aside “self-care” time for you to do what you enjoy, the more you take action and do something about it, the more opportunities will show up. Life is too short to worry about “failing” or having it not work out. It’s all about experiencing new things and learning new things and growing from it. When you genuinely enjoy doing something, that inspired action will end up resulting into something meaningful to you.
