2023 Amanda-WINNER-youth

AMANDA STEELE
International Library Initiative (USA)

2023 RevolutionHer™ Community Vision Youth Award Winner

International Library Initiative is a not-for-profit organization founded in memory of Clarita Riñon which provides literature to underserved communities in Southeast Asia. ILI was founded by Clarita's great-grandaughter, Amanda, who has a passion for storytelling, literature, and filmmaking. ILI has currently collected 5,000 books for the community of Bacnotan, a small province in the Philippines, and continues to raise money and books. One of the inspirations for this initiative was a ten year old named Alexandrov, who lives in Bacnotan with his mom and two sisters. As a curious kid, he considered his favorite book to be the English dictionary. Now, we are happy to know he has access to thousands of books, and dozens of different genres to choose from.
